The affected product is a packaged raw beef tartare sold under the Les Ateliers brand. According to official recall information, the product was distributed between late April and early May 2026 through several wholesale suppliers. Consumers are being urged to carefully check packaging details and avoid consuming the product if it matches the affected batch information.

The recalled item is identified as “TARTARE BRASSERIE 5% CHAROLAIS 2 x 180g,” a raw minced beef product commonly intended for tartare preparation. Officials stated that the affected batch may contain bacteria from the Salmonella family, which can cause salmonellosis, a form of foodborne illness that affects thousands of people every year.

Because beef tartare is commonly eaten raw, the potential risk becomes more serious than with fully cooked meat products. Health agencies explained that proper cooking destroys salmonella bacteria, but uncooked or undercooked meat may allow the bacteria to survive and cause infection.

According to public health experts, symptoms of salmonella infection often appear between 12 and 72 hours after consuming contaminated food. Common symptoms may include diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, headaches, and fever. While many healthy adults recover within several days, the illness can become more severe for vulnerable groups such as children, elderly individuals, pregnant women, and people with weakened immune systems.

Medical authorities emphasized that anyone experiencing serious symptoms after eating raw or undercooked beef should contact a healthcare professional, especially if symptoms become intense or prolonged. Dehydration caused by vomiting or diarrhea can become dangerous if not treated properly.

Food safety specialists also reminded consumers that safe food preparation practices remain extremely important when handling raw meat. Washing hands thoroughly, separating raw foods from cooked foods, disinfecting surfaces, and cooking meat to safe internal temperatures are among the most effective ways to reduce the risk of contamination.

The recall has also highlighted the growing public concern surrounding food safety and product monitoring. Modern food distribution systems allow products to reach many locations quickly, meaning a single contaminated batch can potentially affect large numbers of consumers across different regions.

Officials advised customers who purchased the recalled product not to consume it under any circumstances, even if it has been refrigerated or frozen. Consumers are encouraged either to return the product to the place of purchase for a refund or dispose of it safely.
