Two major traffic accidents across northern Mexico have left dozens of people injured and at least one person dead, prompting a broad response from emergency services and highway authorities. Families of the victims are anxiously awaiting updates as investigations continue into what caused the tragic events.

First Accident: Bus Overturns on Highway 57

During the early hours of Wednesday morning, emergency crews were dispatched to a devastating crash involving a passenger bus traveling along Highway 57, in the Hermanas–Sabinas section at kilometer 68.

The bus, marked with number 9132, was en route from Ciudad Acuña to Gómez Palacio, Durango, when it overturned for reasons still under investigation.

Casualties and Injuries

Authorities confirmed:

  • 1 person deceased

  • Several passengers injured

  • A minor in critical condition

Among the victims is a young boy identified as Jairo, who suffered severe injuries and was transported to IMSS Clinic 7 in Monclova. Doctors are monitoring him closely, and his condition remains critical.

At least five additional passengers were taken to regional hospitals suffering various injuries, ranging from fractures to head trauma. Local officials stated that the number of injured could increase as passengers are evaluated.

Response From Emergency Services

Police, paramedics, and fire crews arrived within minutes of the initial report. The bus, lying on its side across the shoulder of the road, required specialized equipment to safely remove trapped passengers.

Search-and-rescue personnel worked for hours, stabilizing the vehicle and extracting individuals who were pinned or unable to move. Passengers described moments of fear and chaos as the bus lost control and overturned.

One survivor reported:

“Everything happened so fast. We felt a strong movement, then the bus began to tilt. People were shouting and trying to hold on to anything.”

Another passenger said the weather conditions may have contributed, mentioning that the road appeared slippery at the time of the crash.

Authorities Investigating Possible Causes

While the full cause is unknown, investigators are examining several potential factors:

  • Driver fatigue

  • Mechanical failure

  • Adverse road or weather conditions

  • Speed or sudden maneuvers

Representatives from the State Police, National Guard, and transportation regulators are reviewing the bus’s maintenance records and interviewing survivors.

Officials emphasized that they will release verified information only after completing a full analysis of data from the scene.

Families Await News as Roads Are Cleared

Throughout the day, relatives gathered at hospitals in Monclova, Sabinas, and nearby towns, seeking news about their loved ones. Many expressed frustration and fear, noting that communication was limited in the early hours of the emergency.

Some family members told reporters:

“We only want to know if our relatives are alive.”

“We need official information. We have been waiting since dawn.”

Authorities are working to notify families and provide updates as medical evaluations progress.

Second Accident: Vehicle Overturns After Collision With Light Fixture

In a separate incident reported around 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday, a vehicle overturned after crashing into a light pole and a concrete base on the Gómez Palacio–Cuencamé Highway near Raymundo Park in Lerdo, Durango.

Vehicle Rollover Description

The impact caused the car to flip onto its roof, ending up with its wheels facing upward. Witnesses reported that the collision appeared violent, and the vehicle sustained significant structural damage.

Passersby called emergency services immediately, leading to a rapid response from local firefighters, paramedics, and police officers.

Injuries in Second Accident

Authorities confirmed that at least two occupants were injured, though their conditions have not yet been disclosed. They were transported to nearby medical facilities for treatment.

Officials believe speed may have been a factor, but additional details will emerge as investigators review skid marks, debris patterns, and witness statements.

Highway Safety Concerns Raised

Both accidents — occurring within hours of each other — have raised renewed concerns about road safety in northern Mexico, particularly on long highway routes used by buses and cargo vehicles.

Transportation specialists note that this stretch of highway has seen an increase in accidents over recent years due to:

  • Heavy traffic

  • Long-distance routes

  • Limited lighting in certain areas

  • Driver exhaustion during nighttime travel

Local leaders are now calling for improved road maintenance, additional signage, and better enforcement of speed and safety regulations.

Authorities Urge Caution for Travelers

In the aftermath of these incidents, highway officials are reminding drivers to:

  • Avoid long trips without rest

  • Perform vehicle safety checks

  • Reduce speed in poorly lit areas

  • Be mindful of weather conditions

  • Report dangerous driving behavior

The National Guard has also announced an increase in patrols along Highway 57 and surrounding routes to prevent additional tragedies.

Investigation Continues

Both accidents remain under active investigation. Authorities will release further information as forensic teams, transportation inspectors, and medical personnel complete their reviews.

Families of the victims are expected to receive official updates within the coming days, and more detailed reports will be shared with the public once all facts are confirmed.
