Police Investigating Unattended Death in Springfield
Springfield police are investigating the death of a woman who was found unresponsive along a city bike path earlier this week.
According to officials, the woman was discovered on Tuesday, April 22, in the 1500 block of Hall of Fame Avenue. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and determined that she had died.
Ryan Walsh, spokesperson for the Springfield Police Department, confirmed that the case is being handled as an unattended death while authorities await further medical findings.
“The Springfield Police Department Homicide Unit, under the direction of Captain Trent Duda, is conducting an unattended death investigation in coordination with the Hampden County District Attorney’s Office, pending an autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner,” Walsh said in a statement.
The incident comes amid heightened public concern following several recent deaths reported in the same general area over recent weeks. Police emphasized that investigations are ongoing and that no conclusions have been reached at this time.
Officials say additional information will be released as it becomes available and once the medical examiner’s findings are complete.
