Cleveland Authorities Investigate Death of Infant
Authorities in Cleveland, Ohio, are investigating the death of a 16-month-old child after she was found unresponsive in an apartment earlier this week.
Police say the child, identified as Janiya Thompson, was discovered Monday afternoon inside a residence on the city’s east side. Emergency responders pronounced her deceased at the scene.
According to initial police reports, the child’s mother, Kristen Jones, 21, had reportedly left the apartment several days earlier to travel out of state. Investigators are working to confirm the timeline and circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
Officials stated that Jones contacted emergency services after returning to the apartment and discovering her daughter unresponsive. Due to the amount of time that had passed, first responders were unable to provide assistance.
The case remains under active investigation as authorities await additional findings, including results from the medical examiner. Law enforcement has not released further details at this time.
Officials emphasized that all allegations remain under review and that further information will be made public as the investigation continues.
