Authorities in Tampa say a 22-year-old woman accused of impersonating a teenage girl online in order to allegedly exploit underage boys will remain in custody while awaiting trial.

According to reports, Alyssa Zinger appeared in a Florida courtroom for a pre-trial detention hearing after being arrested in November in connection with multiple serious allegations involving minors.

The case has drawn widespread attention because investigators claim the accused allegedly created false social media identities to gain the trust of teenage boys.

Allegations Involving Social Media Deception

During court proceedings, investigators testified that Zinger allegedly posed online as a 14-year-old homeschooled girl using platforms such as:

  • TikTok
  • Snapchat

Authorities claim the false identity was used to communicate with boys between the ages of 13 and 14.

According to testimony presented during the hearing, investigators believe several victims were led to believe they were communicating with another teenager rather than an adult woman.

Officials also stated that some family members and friends of the boys allegedly believed the online persona was genuinely a teenage girl.

Charges Filed in the Case

According to court records, Zinger faces multiple charges, including allegations related to:

  • Lewd or lascivious molestation involving minors
  • Possession of child sexual abuse material

Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing, and detectives are still attempting to determine whether additional victims may exist.

Investigators Describe Evidence Collected

During the hearing, law enforcement officials testified that investigators recovered:

  • Explicit videos
  • Digital communications
  • Text message exchanges
  • Social media evidence

Authorities alleged that some material was obtained from victims’ electronic devices as well as cloud-based digital records.

Investigators also claimed that one victim reported retaliatory behavior after beginning a relationship with someone else.

Questions Raised About Missing Phone

Court testimony also focused on a phone investigators believed belonged to Zinger.

According to detectives, authorities were initially given a device that allegedly did not belong to the accused. Investigators later stated they were informed the actual phone had been lost.

Law enforcement officials indicated that much of the evidence gathered so far has come from:

  • Victims’ devices
  • Cloud account data
  • Social media records

No charges have been announced against family members connected to the case.

Judge Emphasizes Seriousness of Allegations

During the hearing, the judge reportedly stressed the severity of accusations involving alleged manipulation and exploitation of minors.

The court ultimately ruled that Zinger would remain in jail pending further legal proceedings.

Officials say an arraignment hearing has been scheduled while the investigation continues.

Online Safety Concerns Highlighted

The case has also reignited broader discussions about online safety and how easily identities can be misrepresented on social media platforms.

Experts warn that minors may be especially vulnerable to:

  • False online identities
  • Grooming behavior
  • Manipulation through messaging apps
  • Emotional coercion
  • Exploitative relationships

Parents and digital safety professionals continue encouraging open communication with children about online interactions and social media use.

Presumption of Innocence Remains

As with all criminal cases, the allegations against Alyssa Zinger remain accusations at this stage of the legal process.

Authorities say the investigation is ongoing, and the defendant remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

Additional court proceedings are expected in the coming months as prosecutors and defense attorneys continue preparing the case.
