Curious, I examined the bear more closely and found a small stitched pocket I had never noticed before.
Inside was a folded piece of paper.
The handwriting belonged to my husband.
The message was short but deeply unsettling:

My heart immediately began racing.
I barely slept the rest of the night. As dawn arrived, I quietly left the house and drove toward the old cabin Daniel had inherited years earlier.

I sat frozen in silence after the recording ended.
